Charles Richard  Stevens

CHARLES RICHARD STEVENS, age 80 years, of Street, Maryland died on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 6:55 a.m. at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. He was the husband of Peggy A. (Thomas) Stevens with whom he had shared 53 years of marriage.

Born on September 19, 1929 in Street, Maryland, he was a son of the late Wilton Leroy and Mary (Famous) Stevens. A lifetime resident of Street, Mr. Stevens graduated from the former Highland High School and was a lifetime member of Emory United Methodist Church. Retiring in the early 1990's from working as a general contractor, he devoted his time to the family farm that he was very proud of, "Mine Branch Farm." Mr. Stevens was the recipient of the 2008 Harford County Soil Conservation Farmer of the Year. In addition to being a member of the former Bel Air Big Red Football Team, he was previously active in umpiring baseball and referring football games.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:
Three children-
David W. Stevens, Edward A. Stevens and his wife, Diane and Phyllis A. Kelly and her husband, David, all of Street, Maryland

Four grandchildren-
Amy E. Stevens, Andrew P. Stevens, David J. Kelly, Jr. and Daniel M. Kelly

A brother, Arthur (Tim) Famous Stevens of Street, Maryland
A sister, Virginia S. Martin of Street, Maryland

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. Stevens and a sister, Alverta S. Liming.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Emory United Methodist Church, 911 Cherry Hill Road, Street, Maryland

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the church with his minister, Pastor Brian Shockey officiating.

Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emory U.M. Church, PO Box 94, Street, MD 21154 or the American Cancer Society - Harford Unit, PO Box 43025, Baltimore, MD 21236.
