MARY ELIZABETH ROLLINS, (Mary Beth) age 27 years, of Baltimore, Maryland (formerly of Forest Hill, Maryland) died on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore as a result of a tragic fall.

Born on September 3, 1979, Mary Beth was the beloved daughter of Rodney and Terry (Petty) Rollins of King George, Virginia (also, formerly of Forest Hill, Maryland.) She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, generous and giving nature, as well as her spirit of fun and adventure. Mary Beth was well known for her deep dedication to the Howard County Fire and Rescue Department where she served over the past four years as a paramedic/firefighter.

Mary Beth attended Hickory Elementary School, Southampton Middle School and graduated from C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air in 1997. She was an award winning runner and triathlete. Throughout high school and college, Mary Beth won numerous track and cross country awards for her running prowess. In her senior year at C. Milton Wright High School, Mary Beth won the State Class Triple A 800 and 1600 meter races, in addition to being named by the Aegis as Harford County Runner of the Year. Mary Beth was inducted into the C. Milton Wright Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mary Beth received a running scholarship to continue her education, graduating cum laude from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Medical Services (Paramedic) in 2002. While attending UMBC, Mary Beth was the Baltimore Metropolitan Cross Country champion in 1997 and 1998 as well as setting indoor and outdoor records in the 1, 500 meters. Mary Beth was also currently enrolled in the Community College of Baltimore County’s accelerated nursing program for paramedics pursuing her nursing degree.

She competed in numerous running events and triathlons. Most recently, she placed fourth in her age group at the Colonial Beach Triathlon on Sunday, July 15, 2007, just days before her untimely death.
